DVD-SD Backup Utility Released July 10
Teh Skeen is reporting that SkeenDev SoftDev has released v0.1c of a new DVD-SD Backup Ultility for Wii. With reports of of ripping times as fast as 1 hour and 15 minutes this program is capable of ripping games twice as fast as previous methods making it the new fastest ripping program for the Wii.
The application is in a standard Gamecube .DOL file and and runs using any of the many methods used for launching Gamecube hombrew. There are some catches though, It only works in Gamecube Slot A using an SD adapter and since the SD slot does not support SDHC the largest card you can use is 2GB. This means that most Wii games will require the dump be performed in three parts, or more if you’re using a smaller card. GC disc rips should be able to fit on a single card though. Another important note is that to achieve the speeds and maximize space the application must reformat your SD card.
Judging by the shortcomings in this method I think most people will still opt for the easier and less costly ripping methods even with the slower speeds. In any case this good step forward in Wii homebrew development.
