Prevent Your Wii From Overheating While in Standby August 6
In response to the Wii’s GPU causing pixelation because of overheating, pablot from sickmods has posted a very simple tutorial on how to modify your Wii to turn on your fan while in standby mode.
The theory is, the Wii’s GPU overheats while in standby mode, because power is still being consumed while the fans are off. The excess heat burns out the GPU, causing pixelation in game or even worse, no video at all. This modification simply turns the fans on while the Wii is in standby mode, but not in off mode, keeping the hot air from damaging your components.
As you may have heard, the Wii is in danger of overheating if you use WiiConnect24 (orange standby). The reason for this is that the CPU and wireless is still running, but the fan is turned of. We came up with a simple solution (solder one wire) to have the fan on even in orange standby. It won’t be on in red standby, where there is no risk for overheating since the CPU is turned off.
