MoonLight, the author of MoonShell and the M3 Sakura firmware, has released what he claims to be his final build of the Nintendo DS media player MoonShell. Depressed from bad treatment by M3, he has decided to quit DS development, leaving users with a final beta build.
From the (heavily translated) release notes:
I was promised many things over the phone with the company president, but they didn’t deliver. I was told that if I had anything to say, I should say it directly. So I’ll give it to you straight!
Yes! I created M3 Sakura! If you buy and use it, you can get firmware that plays commercial games! But I haven’t tried it myself! Yes, I know that it plays games! You would think that if I could create Sakura, I would at least know about that! Even if Sakura sells I won’t see a single yen of the profits…
I have decided to stop developing for the DS. For the longest time I’ve been putting up with crap, so there, I’ve said it directly…
Version 2.00 beta.5 - 2009/01/16
‘Skin format and language specification’ was decided.
The bug that SPC did not open was corrected. (Tone quality has decreased.)
The key operation was reviewed. The MP3 seek was changed to ‘L/R single + long’.
I added Russian area support. CP866 has not been mounted. CP1251 can be used.

Mik has updated his DS homebrew application, OsUp, to version 2.5. This program allows you to update the firmware of your flashcart directly from your DS.
From the release notes:
This homebrew allows you to update through WiFi the OS of your flashcard.
All you need is an Access Point and a correct configuration for the DS connection.
To set correctly these parameters, you can use one of the commercial games that support the online playing (for example Mario Kart DS).
By now the supported flashcards are:
AceKard2
AceKard RPG
EDGE
R4
DSTT
SuperCardDS One
SuperCardDS One SDHC
Changelog:
added customizable sound effects (you have to replace the default sounds in OsUp folder)
added auto update function to upgrade .. itself
added new menu controlled by both touchcreen and pad
fixed bug in the akrpg’ download function
added second page for changelog viewing (press LEFT AND RIGHT or touch the arrows…if they aren’t there, then the changelog doesn’t have the second page :P )
added the possibility to chose your favourite firmware between custom or official for Ak cards
added the “Settings” submenu with the support for the ini configuration file
added the Italian language

It’s been a few months, but I’ve finally gotten the v1 Final of dsbuff complete. For those new to the program, it allows users to perform basic *.nds file manipulations in a single GUI (think Trim, DLDI Patch, Unpack, etc). The primary difference between this and the beta would be the addition of a crashme scanner, and quite a bit of debugging.
From the ReadMe:
dsbuff is a Windows .NET application which allows you to perform basic operations on *.nds files. It removes the need to use batch files or command line arguments just to perform a simple task.
How to Use dsbuff:
On the top of the form, you see a large browse button. Use this to find your *.nds file. Once you have done that, then there are several things you can consider doing. I think this would be a good place to list the features:
Trim
DLDI
Unpack
Pack
Arm7
Drive
CrashMe Scan
Edit the Header
