WiiGator has updated his Gamecube Backup Launcher to version 0.2. He has fixed quite a few bugs and added additional compatibility.
From the release notes:
Changes:
Increased speed of reloader
Fixed bug in PokeMon XD
Increased speed of audio fix stuff
Allow to select to start disc itself when using a multi game disc
Avoid green screen when starting a game (button A)
Disc change support on startup screen
Disc change supported for all start methods
Fixed Kirby’s Air Ride
Fixed non working PAL games on PAL console, when pressing B (e.g. Wario World)
Support for Freeloader
Support for Action Replay
The loader will change the screen format in Wii mode to the screen format of the disc inserted at startup (this solves NTSC problems).
Installation is same as old versions.
Update information:
You don’t need to run miospatcher, if you already have a previous version and only want to use “rungcbackup” for starting.
If you want to use Wii Backup Launcher or the disc channel for starting, you need to run miospatcher (and press X).

WiiGator, the author of an open source Wii backup loader, has been working on a GameCube loader as well. One of his beta testers has uploaded a video showing a beta build of the loader. Compatibility is looking pretty good, though the disc speed is limited to 3x, as it is for Wii backups.

Watch the Preview on YouTube.
From WiiGator’s Blog Post:
The last days I was working on a loader for GC backups. This is only a preview. The release will be within the next week.
A tester made a video showing it in action. Sorry for the bad quality.

Here are some notes:
I tested it with the games I have. All games seem to be fully working. There may be games which are not working.
IOS249 with backup support need to be installed (e.g. my cIOS r7 from backuplauncher 0.3 gamma).
DVD speed is still limited to 3x.
There are sometimes problems with the DVD read speed. So there is sometimes a very short delay in a few games. The game play is only barely influenced. This was only the case for one of my games.
If you eject the disc, no disc can be detected after it. For 2 disc games use the second disc to boot, if you need to change the disc.
You will need to copy MIOS files to a SD card if you don’t have a internet connection (either Version 5 or Version 6, both is working). There are problems with the Nintendo servers in the last time. You may not be able to download it.

Mega Man has updated his Wii Gamecube Homebrew Loader to version 0.2. Using this program, you can patch your Wii MIOS to boot Gamecube homebrew files of the past. Be cautious, as this program modifies your Wii NAND. Make sure to read the instructions through on proper usage and limitations.
From the release notes:
Changes in Version 0.2
Support for front SD slot.
Gamecube disc should work normally.
Background Information
DOL loader is patched into MIOS. If Wii switches to Gamecube mode, the DOL loader is always started. The loader will start Gamecube homebrew if loaded by GCBooterHomebrew. The loader launches the normal GC loader if no homebrew is detected. This behaviour can be disabled by reinstalling a normal MIOS. I don’t have a Gamecube disc, so I don’t have tested it.
Installation Steps
Copy “RVL-mios-v5.wad.out.wad” into root of front SD card (This file is not part of the archive and is located on certain Wii discs). If you use a different version, this is on your own risk. The MIOS patching wad installer will only allow to install MIOS. This can only break the GC mode. Loader should not patch any starlet code.
Patch MIOS using MIOSPatchingWADInstaller. CAUTION: I can’t test if Gamecube disc are still working, but it should work! When I use a Wii Disc in Gamecube mode, I can see the normal MIOS error message, which tells that the disc is not compatible.
Copy your Gamecube Homebrew DOL into SD root as start.dol. Use Wii front SD slot.
Launch GCBooterHomebrew. This should start the the DOL on the SD card. If screen looks strange, you need to try it again. It is sometimes not working.

Emu_kidid has released a Wii homebrew application called GCBooter, which launches the currently inserted GameCube game. It only works with official game copies, not backup copies.
From the release notes:
GCBooter is a simple application which allows anyone to boot their original GC games from Wii mode. It is region free and works from the homebrew channel.
This is far simpler to use than having to patch your system menu for region free :)
Just copy the GCBooter folder into your /apps/ folder on your card and run it via the homebrew channel. Insert your GameCube disc and press A on the GameCube controller a few times.
Credits:
GCBooter is based on Bushing’s code
Thanks to shagkur for libOGC :)

emu_kidid over at tehskeen has released USB-BOOT v2 to play Gamecube backups through USBGecko.
USB-BOOT v2

Usage:
Insert USBGecko into slot B and connect it to PC.
Load USB-BOOT.dol via your favourite method.
Have a GC game in the drive.
Hit A when prompted.
When the screen asks, on the PC drag a ISO/GCM into USB-BOOT.exe
Notes:
Speed is terrible but compatability is pretty good.
Enjoy.
