Genesis Plus and SMSPlus Emulator Releases

Eke-eke of TehSkeen has released new versions of his Genesis Plus and Sega Master System emulators. Both of these releases add support for the Wiimote, Nunchuk, and Classic Controller. The Sega Master System emulator has received front SD support, and Genesis Plus has received various game fixes and a new video mode.

VBA 1.7.2 port for Gamecube and Wii UPDATED

At tehskeen, emu_kidid has released a few improvements to the VBA Emulator

Homebrew Channel Pack

I decided that I would do a few little minor additions to this emulator before I dropped it totally from my list and so here’s the results.


Wii Port
Wiimote / Classic Controller / Gamecube Pad support
Front-SD ROM Loading
Front-SD SRAM Saving and Loading
MEM2 ROM Storage for fast access
In-game Menu with ability to exit to loader (Home button)
Auto frame skip for those core heavy games


GC Port
SDGecko ROM Loading
SDGecko SRAM Saving and Loading
In-game Menu with ability to exit to loader (X+Y)
Auto frame skip to give you the illusion of full FPS


Please note, there’s not much of a GUI if anything. The only way you can load another ROM is to exit to the loader through the in-game menu or simply reload the DOL.


Please note, this is coded in PAL60, if you change it you will probably mess up the timing and things will go horribly wrong due to frame-skip relying on this.


Roms must be placed in /VBA/ROMS/ and cannot be compressed.
Saves will be placed in /VBA/SAVES/ and will automatically be loaded if they exist.
The GBA BIOS file is to be placed in /VBA/BIOS/BIOS.GBA.


If you want to use a Wiimote/Classic Controller, turn it on during the ROM selection menu for it to be detected.


Full source code is included. You will need to wait until the current libOGC CVS is updated to devkitpro r15 and actually working. I compiled using a modified devkitPro r14 and libogc from CVS. Use the pre-compiled GBA.o (done with level2 optimizations) if you wish to compile this software again. (GBA.d will need to be modified) This is a messy build process but it’s the only way to get it working for now.

emu_kidid over at tehskeen has released USB-BOOT v2 to play Gamecube backups through USBGecko.

USB-Boot

Emu_Kidid of TehSkeen has released a USBGecko application called USB-Boot, which allows you to boot Gamecube games over USB. He has stated that this is an old project which he can only offer limited support for.

SMSPlus “Project” - Sega GameGear and Master System Emulator

Eke-eke from tehskeen has released SMSPlus for the Wii and Gamecube.

lot of modifications since the last release, the most interesting for people here should be the Wii mode version (no Front-Sd save support though, still working on proper LFN support) and the support for 480p progressive mode, along with the support of PAL wii modes: PAL 50 hz and EURGB60 (finally, no more red screen or “sound-only” during gameplay).

here’s the full changelog:

- fixed VDP init when loading savestate: fix graphics in games using TMS9918 mode
- added port $3E emulation and full SMS BIOS support (see user notes)
- implemented SMS1 VDP “tilemap mirroring” bug: fix Y’s (J) status bar when running in SMS1 mode
- updated Z80 core to last version (fix some undocumented behaviour): fix Rambo 3 “Game Over” screen & Robocop 3 “pause” bug

- added “Aspect” option to switch between Original (correct aspect ratio with borders) and Fit Screen (full screen) display modes
- added “Xshift” & “Yshift” settings to let you adjust display area while keeping the original aspect ratio
- added “Border” option to enable/disable borders color emulation
- added “Palette” option to let you choose the Brightness level: RVB (darkest), Normal , Bright
- added Wii mode support (including front SD rom loading with LFN, TP reload, …)
- added EURGB60 & PAL 50hz TV modes support
- added 480p (progressive) rendering mode support in Wii mode (not supported by the PAL60 version, use the other one !)

DevkitPPC Release 14

Over at devkitPro, the devkitPPC has been updated to the 14th release. Support for the Wii has been added, since the Twilight Hack allows code to be natively launched.

From the release notes:

The 14th release of the gamecube toolchain is now final and available for download. This version brings Wii support now that we have the ability to run code on Wii thanks to the efforts of Team Twiizers and their Twilight Hack.

Those of you used to the old build system with prior versions of devkitPPC and gamecube programming will need to review the updated examples and templates. libogc has now been removed from inside the toolchain and is installed in a separate directory in the same way we maintain the gba and ds support libraries for devkitARM. This allows us more leeway to update the toolchain and libraries separately and avoid dependency issues which have been causing problems for users in the past.

In_cube 0.32

Haley’s Comet Software has released in_cube 0.32. In_cube is a winamp plugin, that allows you to play audio formats from many different video games, including the GC and Wii.

SD-Boot Updated to v0.3

emu_kidid from tehskeen.com has updated SD-Boot to v0.3. SD-Boot is a program that allows you to play homebrew and GC backups from an SD Card via SDgecko or other similar mods. It, obviously, works on a Gamecube as well as the Wii in GC mode.
