Team Xecuter has announced recently an upcoming kit for the WiiFree firmware. This kit includes a PIC chip a PIC programmer and everything you need to install and run the WiiFree firmware on  your Wii.

From the Announcement:

Since we announced the Xecuter Wiip2 project (finished design should be next week) we have had many requests to make an easy to install kit for the excellent WiiFree project that was cheap, reliable and good quality.

This kit will come in 2 flavors with and without a PIC programmer. Both kits will include a blank 12F629 PIC of which we have secured 10,000pcs at an excellent price.

Pricing and an official release date have not yet been announced. WiiFree is one of the many “Free” (as in Liber) modchips available for the Wii console.

Michael Page wrote in to tell us about his Gold Zelda Gamecube case mod. The mod, inspired by Morpheon Mods includes lots of LEDs, LEDs in controller ports, LEDs in the Fans, LEDs under the disc lid, It also includes a customized clear jewel on the lid and finished off with a black on gold paint job complete with a tri-force design below the controller ports.

If you’re interested in having this case mod for your own it’s actually up for Auction. Normally we wont feature case mods like this that are also up for sale, we’re not here to make you money, we’re here to honor the hardwork of moders and hackers. But this auction is different because the profits are going to the Child’s Play Charity and that’s something ever gamer can get behind.

Spinal has released DiagnoSe, a DS function tester. Information is from the NeoFlash Forums.

DiagnoSe is a DS function tester, designed to test the features of the DS.

Using the stylus to navigate the menu, from the top left you have -

Version 1.21 of the popular RegionFrii Wii ISO patching software by SYNDiCATE has been released. The new version includes an improved GUI as well as improved game support.

Full Changelog since v1.2:

RegionFrii patches Wii game ISOs to run on alternative regioned hardware; allowing you to patch NTSC games to PAL or NTSC-J to NTSC, etc. When used in conjunction with a modchip you are able to play foreign Wii backups on your local hardware.

6809 has released XRoar, a Dragon and Tandy emulator, for the Nintendo DS.

The Dragon is an 8-bit personal computer based upon the Motorola MC6809E microprocessor. Made in Wales by Dragon Data Ltd., two variants were sold in the UK: the Dragon 32 (basic version, 32K RAM) and the Dragon 64 (64K RAM, serial port, other very minor differences). The on-board ROM contains a version of Microsoft Extended Colour BASIC, but more advanced operating systems like OS-9 and FLEX are available.

An NTSC version of the Dragon 64 was released in the USA as the Tano Dragon, and Eurohard repackaged it in Spain as the Dragon 200.

Nintendo DS binary - still rough & ready, but now with a (ever so slightly less limited) file requester. The .ds.gba file. Developed using a DS-Xtreme with libnds and libfat. ROMs go in fat:/dragon/. Here’s a photo of XRoar working on a DS.

Cyberpyrot over on AcidMods posted a brief guide for his Wii NES Blaster mod. The mod basically relocates the IR receiver and B button into the barrel and trigger of a classic NES Blaster shell. A very simple mod but cool none the less.

A note for those who might try this themselves, the way the Wii Remote position works it’s positioned in relation to the sensor bar not your screen. So while you could look down the barrel of the real classic NES blaster and have it shoot in that location, chances are this mod, much like the Wii Remote, wont actually shoot where you’re pointing.Overview guide and more pictures available on the AcidMods Forums.

Newsweek is reporting that Nintendo will unveil later today original games through the WiiWare service. Unlike the current crop of Virtual Console titles, these new games available through WiiWare will new original titles from big name developers such as Ubisoft and Sega, as well as up and coming indy developers. While the announcement is planned for later today we wont see any of these games popping up on the service until early next year.

Today the NTSC version of Pokemon Battle Revolution was released into the wild. The game boasts interoperability with the recent Pokemon releases for the DS. Interesting enough If you’re using a backuped copy of the game on your DS it will not communicate with the Wii version of the game.

Another point about this game is it is the first Wii game to support online multiplayer on the Wii. It should be interesting to see if Nintendo follows Microsoft’s lead in keeping moded consoles off of their multiplayer network.
