Ski Freak wrote in to tell us of an interesting presentation that took place at the 24th Annual Chaos Communication Congress (24C3) right now; it would appear that a fully hacked Wii capable of running native homebrew with full hardware access has been presented.
From the report:
The guys over at 24C3 just demoed a Wii hack that is set to provide native wii
homebrew in the near future (not running in GC mode, and with full access to all the Wii hardware!)
They were able to find encryption and decryption keys by doing full memory
dumps at runtime over a custom serial interface. Using these keys, they were
able to create a Wii ‘game’ that ran their own code (their demo happened to show live sensor/Wiimote information, amongst a few other things).
Details are minimal and we’re waiting for additional conformation from additional sources. If you’re in attendance at the event and can provide us with additional information please let us know.
UPDATE: Thanks for the conformation we received from those in attendance at the confrence. A youtube video has been posted with the Wii segment on “Why Silicon-Based Security is still that hard”. You can watch the complete inofficial recording if you wish, the Wii segments starts at 59 minutes. Thanks to atzplzw and xjw for the links.

UPDATE #2:PSX-Scene received some additional information about the hack from some of their members:
- They got the wii keys, and we could use them without hacking our wii again.
- This hack requires a drive modchip to execute the code.
- There is not any tool to sign the code, but it’s coming soon.
- They are working to access to the SD thought EXI.
- There is not any stack homebrew for bluetooth
- A linux port for Wii will be released easily.

In a forum post on the Team Cyclops website, the team has released a beta version of the 1.3 firmware for their CycloDS Evolution flashcart. Beta releases are becoming common for the CycloDS, but this one is unique in that it adds Real Time Saving to the feature list. While not entirely completed, it is in working condition and has been tested by Team Cyclops. The CycloDS becomes the 2nd flashcart to have Real Time Save, as the SuperCard DS ONE was the first to implement this. The team requests that any bugs they have missed be reported.
Team Cyclops also noted that the black version of the CycloDS has been shipped to resellers, and that orders of this product will arrive just after the new year. Pictures of this model are coming soon.
From the official post:
We’re pleased to greet our users during the festive season with a very special new firmware. We’d like to thank all of our users for their patience and understanding whilst we’ve been working on the new release! Some of you may be wondering why we have held off from making a major release for considerable time. In short, we’ve been chiseling away at a new feature which we’re sure many will love and find increasingly useful as times goes by. RealTime Save is now a reality for the CycloDS Evolution, thanks to many hours of hard work and testing. It’s by no means perfect yet, but as always, we’ll continue to strive for perfection and user satisfaction. However, it’s here and works well, so we feel that it’s time to treat CycloDS Evolution owners to some advanced functionality and reward their patience. General compatibility with many titles has now been enhanced too, building on our already extensive foundations. These changes are available as part of the CycloDS Evolution v1.3 BETA firmware release which is available for download from the support page. Please note that this is a BETA release, so be sure to read the included documentation thoroughly before using.
Now on to other news, many will undoubtedly be pleased to learn that the first shipments of the black CycloDS Evolution are now on their way to retailers, and customers should receive their orders in the first few days of the new year! So you may now order Evolution in black or white from your retailer. We will be posting pictures of the black soon for those that are interested to see how it looks.
