GBATemp.net has been sold to CNET.

Dear members, GBAtemp is now over five years old and is continuously growing in both size and popularity in ways we would never have expected in the past. As you can imagine, keeping such a popular website running smoothly and without hiccups is both an expensive and tedious task.

Up until now the sites hosting has been funded by the staff and more recently our affiliates whom we thank very much. Unfortunately we have reached a point in our GBAtemp’s life where it’s impossible to keep the site running by ourselves; we don’t have the time or funds to keep this community online 24/7 — a huge task for such a small group of staff members who have day jobs to attend to.

You may have heard rumours in the past few weeks or months that GBAtemp was considering an offer from an interested party. These rumours are true. Today we become an official CNET Networks channel partner and the site becomes full property of GameSpot.

Team WiiKey has posted the new WiiKey update 1.9s. All 3 firmware updates and config disks are now available for download.

[2008-03-26] SSBB Update Released for Wiikey!
We are pleased to be able to announce the release of Firmware Update 1.9s for Wiikey which is available in the resources section. This fixes the issue with original SSBB discs not working and it should also no longer be possible to render the chip inoperable by using patched config discs. A new config option to block system updates from DVD is also supported. The 1.9s config discs will be released by the end of this week.

WesTek has released an AutoProgrammer for the WiiKey 1.9s Firmware, for use with the ATMEGA8L chips.

Here it is guys, the Autoprogrammer for the newly released 1.9s firmware for use with “Make it yourself Wiikey” ATMEGA8L chips. All configuration options including 2 newest options are all set to on by default. Enjoy!

All of the requests for a menu to select different ELF files are now answered with svpe’s Front SD ELF Loader. Set this program as the “boot.elf” file, and then create a directory called “elf” and place all the programs you want to run inside of it.

From the release notes:

Create an “elf” directory (all letters in lower-case, don’t include quotes) on your SD card and put all your ELF files in there. Load the tp-hack-loader.elf with the twilight hack or the trucha-disc-loader.dol with a trucha signed disc.

The miniloader/ is just a quick hack to make this work with trucha discs because the apploader i used didn’t seem to support a non-standard entry point. The real loader with the front SD code is in the loader/ directory.

On Thursday, a new homebrew game was released for the Wii. Chess is a port of the TSCP game, and is in the standard ELF file format, meaning it can be played with the Twilight Hack.

From the release notes:

Use a Gamecube gamepad to control the cursor. The A button places the blue cursor, the B button moves a figure from the blue to the orange position. Start returns to the chainloader.

A new update for the Wii has appeared since yesterday’s Shop Channel update, which one user claims prevents booting files with trucha signatures, used to resign modified games. The reported affects are not confirmed, but it is advised that you not update your Wii yet.

A new Wii System Update has been reported, the trucha exploit reportedly is fixed by this(needs confirmation).

Update: Bushing has described this update as a “preparation” for fixing the trucha exploit, though many signed discs will still work. He has advised not to update, so if at all possible, do not update.

Another update has been released for the Twilight Hack, which attempts to fix any errors that users with FAT32-formatted SD cards may have received. If the exploit is currently working for you, it is advised that you do not upgrade yet.

Experimental version with FAT32 support. Only try this if you receive an error message while loading boot.elf.

Note: We do not wish to host the Twilight Hack on our servers, so there will never be any downloads for the exploit here.

Nintendo has released an update to their Shop Channel, which will allow you to download WiiWare titles this spring. This is a safe update, as the Twilight Hack has been confirmed to still work and the Wii firmware version stays at 3.2.

Team SuperCard has updated the firmware for their DSONE flashcard model to version 3.0 SP3. This service pack added a DMA option in the patch mode, and fixed other various bugs.

Updated: ndsinfo.dat (2064)

Added: DMA option in patch mode, A small fraction of the games need to enable this option (it may cause some games run instability)

Fixed: the bug of 1770 Chinese Translated version

A new firmware is coming out for Argon/Infectus. According to the news at infectus.biz the new firmware will feature 9 wire support as well as many other enhanced features.

We are happy to announce that in development is a new cool firmware for ARGON/INFECTUS, a more superior firmware than the current “9 wires wasabi” competitor. See the unbelivable functions that will be supported::

INFECTUS2:
1- Supports all chipset versions: DMS, D2A, D2B and D2C (including D1A)
2- ONLY 9+1(clock) WIRES on D2C
3- ONLY 5+1(clock) WIRES on DMS, D2A, D2B

We remember that ONLY modchips like ARGON / INFECTUS2 / D2PRO can release BIG LOGICAL UPDATES on firmwares, wasabi cannot change the ACTEL FPGA code, and this is a BIG LIMIT for future applications. Only to demostrate that we have the know how to do the same like wasabi, we will release this feature that for us is unusefull…

Last thing, we remember that in development are other firmwares (like PS3 firmware) for INFECTUS and ARGON, wasabi can work only on WII… JTAG modchips can work on many differents consoles… just a .DAT file is necessary to use ARGON in a PS3 in a near future… ;)
